Drawing:
Drawing is a visual art form in which the artist makes marks on a substrate surface using graphite, charcoal, pens, ink, pastels, colored pencils, paint, or a sharp object that etches into the surface creating lines, tones, or other marks.
Painting:
Painting is an art form in which the artist uses acrylics, oils, gouache, or watercolor to create a work of art using the elements of art and principles of design. Paintings can be created on canvas, paper, clay board or any other appropriate surface using dry brush techniques or wet on wet techniques with a variety of brushes.
Mixed Media:
Mixed media is the use of two or more medias to create a work of art. The artist layers the media creating varied effects which can be opaque and translucent, textural, and multidimensional. It can also include found objects. This art form allows for a lot of experimentation. Some suggestions are drawing, painting, inks, decorative papers, stencils, printing media, bai relief, gold leaf ,etc.
Printmaking:
Printmaking is a broad-based art form. Prints can be established on zinc or copper plates which are etched to receive the design and then inked in multiple sets and numbered. The artist can also create mono prints using a multitude of different surfaces and incorporate the print into a mixed media work of art if desired.
Fiber:
Handmade paper is composed of various fibers such as cotton, abaca, flax, hemp, sissle, etc.… The paper can be hand pulled, poured, or constructed. Papers can be dyed or painted, and fibers can be mixed to produce various effects.
Silk is designed using a free form approach or using gutta and a silk tool to create a drawing. When dry the gutta line acts like a resist. Apply the wet dyes inside the lines, careful not to apply too much at once to create a colorful image.
Fiber baskets are constructed using natural fibers and formed into creative sculptural shapes for the wall, or to be placed on a pedestal making use of positive and negative shapes for visual interest. Some of the materials used are rattan, sea grass, barks…
Sculpture:
Traditionally sculpture was executed using marble or stone. Today sculpture can be composed of bronze or other metals as well as clay, glass, cement, or mixed media. Sculpture is 3 dimensional and usually in the round. Bai relief sculpture is mounted on a wall and is raised to generate depth. The early freezes found in many Greek , Roman and Egyptian monuments make use of bai relief sculpture as well as sculpture in the round.
Digital Art:
The artist uses the computer and Photoshop to create unique works of art. The design is generated by the artist and with the use of filters and layering, creative results may be achieved.
Glass:
Glass art has a couple different categories. Glass can be blown in a glass burning oven, and shaped and pulled into a unique form. It can be slumped in a kiln to create many different shapes and forms. This is called fused glass.
Stain glass is another art form. Here the artist creates their template and cuts each piece of glass to fit the template. The piece is secured using a cam lead technique and or soldering technique.
Jewelry:
There are many ways to create jewelry. A silver or goldsmith creates jewelry with or without stones. Today some jewelers go beyond wearable pieces to sculptures. Other medias are also used such as bone, leather, beads, and any other interesting item the jeweler might discover.
Photography:
Today most photographers create digital images. Some artists use Photoshop to alter their work and add creative elements. Dark room techniques are still used by traditionalists. Negative overlays created accidentally by Jerry Ulsan are extremely creative ways to construct an image. Some artists hand color their prints while others use a cyanotype process using the sun as a developer, to create one-of-a-kind images usually on cloth an oriented in blue.
