Jennifer Payne’s work is completely intuitive and spontaneous. Although her subject matter is taken from observing nature in a realistic manner, her unique view of the subject flirts on the edge of abstraction. Consistently experimental and playful Jennifer rarely knows what a painting is going to look like until completion. Instead, she lets it flow into its own fresh narrative that she enjoys being constantly surprised by.
Her style is bold and expressive using any and everything to paint with: a palette knife, the brush handle of a brush, her fingers, cardboard, a squeegee, anything that moves the oil paint around to create the ever present textures and energy found in nature. She prefers working on wood because it can be manipulated through sanding, scratching, and scraping it, she just loves the tactile feel of it. Jennifer’s work is meant to instill positive feelings to the viewer and hopefully have them share in the freedom and joy she feels when creating the paintings.
